For so much more... song lyrics notwithstanding, it's the truth.

To make a long story short, I remember now why coming home is routinely a drag. Yes I miss my family and am always thrilled to get back to see them. Sure, that's a given. But returning to *this* town, returning as a blind journalism major with her sights set on the third world... welcome I am not at times.

Ah well, it's only two weeks.

On a more positive note, we've had a retirement party in the works for three months at least, thrown for my father who's just completed thirty years of teaching and administrative... thingies at the local high school and has just stepped down. Well-liked and respected man plus half the town keeping my mother's master plan a closely guarded secret equals one huge surprise when he walked into the town hall! In a word: priceless. In a few more words: I'm *very* glad I was home for the festivities, thoughI had very little to do with their organization. that's up to mom and the magic calendar on which everything is recorded, and I do mean everything as the woman is a genius--a time oriented genius, but all the same the attribute stands. And of course my sister the technical wizard who helped with the setup. and yes, they *did* talk me into singing karaoke, crazy people that we all are. And needless to say a few of the high school's staff got just the slightest bit tipsy during the night. That would be a side of my teachers and friends that I'd rather not know existed. I'm glad I decided to duck out and talked my sister into a ride into town after I finally got the courage and sang. Still, a successful night. Mom outdid herself, and I doubt if she'd have had it any other way.

Not much else to report beyond NC's last Threadfall--a complete blast was had, at least by this Istan blueling. Legends appearing out of the woodwork, interweyr aerial work, not to mention the whole Benden Weyr fly-over thing... wow. I've taken part in history, over a historical weyr. *flutter*.

*cough* anyway, back down out of the clouds.
