For a little context, I was unable to donate last week, as my known-to-be-tricky vein was not cooperating. When someone who's usually the person other staff members call if a stick is proving difficult says your vein isn't great that day, and then can't get things running even after multiple attempts at positioning the needle, you know that a) the day's donation just isn't going to work, and b) your known high platelet count is doing its thing, and you've probably clotted off at speed. I've been down that particular road before, and it /stinks/, but I'm at least aware of it as a possibility. Needless to say, I was doubly determined to make this attempt succeed. And it did! Went off without a hitch, in fact. It was one of those 'Did you just stick me? I didn't even *feel* that!' instances, too.
