The subject line is superficially related to the rest of the post, but really, how have I not realized this before?


I prompted something over at threesentenceficathon yesterday, and now the idea's stuck in my head. To be fair, the prompt itself was one possible avenue an idea I've had for ages could take - a universe with altered senior staff and civilian roles i.e. Captain Jadzia Dax, Science Officer Julian Bashir, Constable Quark, leading to a very different station atmosphere indeed - but you just *know* where I'm going with this if you've been around here a while. If you read at least one, if not two previous wishlists of mine, you definitely know where I'm going with this. You know I said Dr. Benjamin Sisko, station Chief Medical Officer, because of course I did. I mean, I can easily picture him in the role, with the sort of natural professionalism that's without a hint of chill to it, unwavering steadiness, consummate skill, and compassion in his eyes, and that voice--good gosh. I continue to wish someone would write a longer fic that goes down this avenue. I would, but I can't without causing myself grief in the brains department. I know myself well enough to know that making the attempt would be A Bad Idea.

Tell me I'm not the only one who can see it, if nothing else?

That's a cool idea! I'd definitely read it. (Especially Constable Quark which is a concept that fills me with delight.)

You know the station would be a rather more... er, permissive place as far as legality goes, were Quark in charge of anything to do with security. XD And with Dax in charge added to the mix, the entire atmosphere would be different.

Sisko, though... wow. One snippet in "Distant Voices" and... just, wow.
