Why I keep coming back to Miles O'Brien talking about the Dominion War should be... fairly obvious, given the current state of things.
First off, I'm okay. I'm off work all this week, with the express permission and empathetic agreement of both Bosslady (my immediate supervisor) and the big boss (the company president). The latter asked me if I was okay for supplies, then told me to call him if I needed anything. Signs you work for an excellent human being. :) I suspect the company itself will close temporarily as nonessential, given the tightening of restrictions known to be coming down the pike shortly. What we've got coming doesn't sound like a full panic button lockdown of a shelter in place order, at least, but there will be more businesses closing for the short-term. If it means fewer people catching the horrible corona*, I'm okay with that. I do intend to run to the credit union tomorrow morning, observing any and all precautions along the way and while there, just to make sure I deposit what needs depositing before anything shutters. My state tax refund turned up, and I'd sooner that wasn't sitting around here.
If a full shelter in place order *does* go out, I'm likely to head for Fond Du Lac County to ride it out with family. That's at their request, not at my suggestion. I worry about them - diabetic brother-in-law, pregnant sister, parents over 60 in one case and over 70 in the other, little kiddos - but if we're all asymptomatic and stuck together for 22 days... I'll be concerned the whole time, if it comes to that.
Fortunately it hasn't come to that, yet. When I ran to the grocery store yesterday, there was definitely some industrious flurry, but no one was panicking or snagging everything within reach, and I was able to get everything I needed. The one thing missed was a case of me forgetting an item until I was home and unpacking the bag. Whoops! Oh well, it wasn't essential anyway.
The mental health issues seem to have stabilized, amazingly. They are not perfect, but I'm at least not miserable now.
I did wake up to some warm fuzzy news yesterday morning. I have a brand new baby cousin! Maya Eleanor is currently isolated with her adoptive parents out of an abundance of caution (you know how the song goes, and why) but alive, well, and according to her grandma (my aunt), pretty darn cute. Bio mom is also well, which I was glad to hear. Word of my aunt is, once the threat of this damned virus is over, there's going to be a party and about a bazillion introductions. :D I needed the joy the news of her arrival brought me, for sure.
*I tried calling it coronacrud, coronayuck, the horrible ick, or similar, and it just didn't suit. The crud makes you feel like, well, crud, but doesn't generally run the risk of killing you. I can't minimize or be flippant about this virus without feeling like an insensitive jerk.

Date: 2020-03-24 07:08 pm (UTC)Doing my best at hanging in there. Glad you and yours are too! My boss is a sweetheart, and our governor is really stepping up, which doesn't surprise me (he was a science teacher), but is excellent to see anyway.

It's like calling NHS workers 'angels' which really pisses off the NHS workers I know!
