Yep, the day finally came! My mother, my aunt and I headed south yesterday morning, including braving the towering headache that is driving in Chicago, for a 2:00 matinee. I don't know how people get anywhere in that city, seriously, even with the trains running at all hours. Yikes! :( As it was, we made it to our seats with precious little time to spare; there were maybe five minutes, ten at most, between us sitting down and the show starting.

The show itself went well. There was quite a bit more laughter at certain points than I imagined there would be. The Adams Administration comes to mind, although someone told me that's because King George stays onstage and dances to it? King George's lines and delivery in general, even when the lines didn't seem particularly funny... And something involving a thrown bouquet at the end of Helpless? I have no idea. Chicago's current Angelica is excellent, and their current Lafayette/Jefferson equally so, to the point that I suspect he speaks French in RL. Burr knocked Washington's entrance during Right Hand Man right out of the park, playing it to the hilt, and Washington himself, at certain points, sounded like he'd had some Gospel training of his own. I will say, though? Nobody holds a candle to Chris Jackson in that role.

I wasn't quite as enamored of Chicago's current Alexander, but those are admittedly gigantic shoes to fill, and the current Eliza wobbled a little in spots... the reprise of Stay Alive rather made up for things - they were both excellent during that scene! And yes, It's Quiet Uptown made me cry. I routinely skip that one on the soundtrack, because I can't listen to it without losing it.

It is, for the record, extremely awkward when the blind person in the party knows what's going on onstage before the sighted people do. That's not for reasons of pride or expected roles, and has everything to do with said blind person being a towering geek with interests in history where the sighted folks are not. The people I was with know nothing of fanfiction, let alone AO3 and what an author's note is, so explaining how I knew most of the details I did was a clumsy affair. At one point, I just summed it up as, "Yer daughter's a nerd!"

Today was for sleeping in, then for going out and enjoying the beautiful weather... before it started thundering and pouring buckets. Blah. It sounds as though it's knocked off the storming, for a while at least, so I'm going to try and take advantage of the lull and pot these seedlings outside. I do not need random dirt all over my carpet! Rosemary, basil, and oregano here I come.

I'm so glad you got a chance to see it in the flesh!
