pleasant surprises of the icy kind

When you're both fully expecting and entirely prepared to go out in the bitterly cold (-30 C, before the wind chill factors in) weather, and then get a text from your boss, as in the big boss, who's the one who outlined for you that if the metro bus system closes, so does the company, saying there are two days of company closure coming due to weather.

I'm surprised, even now, but I'm not objecting! I was fully ready to go out in the ick, though I wouldn't have been happy about it - who would? but will absolutely take the fact that I don't have to. As I texted my direct boss when she confirmed I'd gotten the companywide message: Stay warm, stay safe. I'm going back to bed!

And so I did. Only to have Challenger-related nightmares... :(

Missed Jeopardy! earlier. Darnit. Tomorrow.

Yeah.. kinda wish the anniversary of that wasn't plastered all over the internet.

I watched that live.. still can't re-watch the footage. My imagination is far too good at filling in the blanks.

*winces, mightily* I was too young to know it. I found out far later just what had happened, and then it had quite the profound effect on tweenage me.

I know what you mean re: imaginations and filling in blanks. Very, very well.

Yeah... I was in first year of University. It was a gut punch, and no-one on my floor knew why I was sitting in the shared kitchen, looking like I'd been shot.

We held a wake, that Thurs, at the Sci-fi society's usual bar meet up. By that point we knew that death would not have come swiftly for the crew.

I think that was the first time in my life I wished I could get black-out drunk. [me and alcohol do not mix well.]
