I did not, as I thought I had (cheers for not a damn thing, anxiety), ruin tonight's birthday dinner with my folks.

My father is a wonderful man, and I am not the only one who sees the issues between my mother and I for what they are.

These things dovetail.

WHEW!

Aaaaand now that that's mostly resolved, I am going to bed. Happy birthday to me, I live in the sea. ... Well, no, I don't, as I wouldn't know what to *do* with the sea, as I am unashamedly and unreservedly a freshwater gal, but 'I live in the lake' doesn't scan, and hey, that rhyme is better than the variation one of my sisters came up with as a kid...

I'm okay. See above for why.

... Oh, and the besplatted phone is now fixed, as well as up one case and a screen protector. :)

Happiest of birthdays, and isn't it handy when parents come in pairs?

(Also, phone cases are wonderful things. I have a very basic hard case, and its teeny 2mm side projections have saved my screen at least four times when dropping it face-first on tile floor.)

Parents coming in pairs is GREAT unless the one keeping the other parent functional AS a parent dies young. My mom died at 58 years old, 12 years ago in August.

Our father died as a parent less than two years later. My sister and I weren't surprised by the overtly misogynistic ignoring of his female children, but our brother was twice orphaned by the loss of his dad, one of his best friends.

Dad doesn't talk to us if we call him, barely says hi and hands the phone over to his racist, bigoted, transgenic, homophobic, and prosperity gospel following wife, who tries to convert us. We're Jewish, my teen is agender, and I'm NOT taking my offspring down to North Carolina to deal with bigotry from family and strangers there.

Transphobic, stupid spellchecker. See the rest of the post... Though I'm not sure Dad's second wife is entirely human at this point, and that's terrible of me even to think just after Yom Kippur.

No WAY that person would acknowledge my teen's identity or even name at this point. (BIG side eye LOOK)
