... Is finally, finally fixed! :D I can expand messages I've replied to now, which means I can have a proper message archive that doesn't rely on e-mailed copies. Conversational threads are go!

Hat tip to the Dreamwidth support folks for both sorting out the problem and having a clue about screenreader technology's interface with social media. That second one's a rare one, believe me. I wish I knew how they managed the fix.

*dances the uncoordinated white geeklady dance of wordy delight and relief*

I am quite yay on your behalf that they did good, but sad that we live in a world where this is a surprise. Ah humans.

Perhaps. Would you care to elaborate?

I assume that you have a better informed perspective than mine. However, my experience of being a weird human is that weird humans frequently screw up being nice to differently weird humans. I can probably constitute an example all by myself.

Whereas I had thought that I was the one who screwed up by failing to account for your experiences, and that you were gently correcting me... good intentions don't always lead to good communication! Basically I think any group of people I criticize for screwing up, I can see myself in... I do trust you to have goodwill and the power to learn, and I hope that I can manage to live up to that. If you proved my point, well, I proved yours. But we're here, and cats purr and bird fly and good things can happen, and you are one of them.

Dreamwidth are one of the better organisations out there for doing things right. They don't have tons of resources, so sometimes it takes them a while, but it *will* get fixed... and we don't have to worry about them selling the parent company.

Yes! for technology finally working.

Just checking: do you know about displaying "explicit comment hierarchy indicators"? If yes, ignore this message.

If "no", go to
http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=display
Search on "archy" and tick the box.
Revisit a page with many nested comments. Notice the each comment begins with a number/letter/number combo showing who replied to whom.

Huh. Seems to me I've always had that; I don't remember ever activating such a feature and I don't think I've heard of archy in this context. or mehitabel for that matter.

Ha! Don't know if it's on by default. Now you know how to turn it off.

Mehitable brings fond memories. A cockroach on a smartphone is just not that evocative.

"Archy" because i can remember how to spell it, and it's a subset of hierarchy.

(Or maybe you were joking, and I'm slow witted in the AMs)

No, I'm slow-witted in the extreme AMs. See the timestamp on my comment... Oh, that depends on timezone. It's tagged 03:16 am, in my local time.
