To all my friends in the UK, I am so terribly sorry. I'm also both utterly boggled and furious, but not at any of you.

Many a blessing on the second independence referendum now brewing in Scotland. I hope it takes this time. I say this as a Scots-Irish Eurofriendly American with an atypical bent, but I still say it.

Well, there was a little bit of intention with that song, but it honestly was stuck in my head. Specifically the 'hold your nose and close your eyes' line, for precisely the political reasons outlined above. Oy.

I've had that whole soundtrack going around in my head lately! That's not helped by my tendency to keep playing it... :) Are you at all surprised I <3 Lafayette? and good shards, General Washington has a magnificent voice.

You know how Reddit and substantial portion of the internet kind of drove or predicted Donald Trump's successful campaign?

Well... there's lots of chatter over there about a Celtic Union of Scotland, Eire and northern Ireland, splitting from the UK and remaining in the EU. Basically where they voted solidly for remaining in the EU and got dragged out by England, there's a lot of resentment.

Yes there is, and so there ought to be, IMO. I... am intrigued by this Celtic Union concept. I'm also frankly surprised by Wales voting to leave the EU/sticking with England, though admittedly that margin was a narrow one. ... Goshdarnit, I've had a bias toward that country since A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and I've supported their self-determination for about as long. If it were a Celtic and Brythonic Union of independent nations with a common reason... But it isn't. Still intrigued.
