This dream was basically Hitler's Germany and occupied Europe transposed onto an altered setting. That explains the enemy, the soldiers and the people in jail, including the children.
Her name was Ariala. I could tell you all the names of the four children she was caretaker of... the pre-occupation names she'd given them secretly, not their original ones. She *did* have one biological daughter, and I will say she was called Shala. I never actualy *saw* her beyond her infancy, and I couldn't tell you her exact age. Looking at what the children were named and what I vaguely remember society calling them now that I'm awake, it was similar to Dutch versus German. The doctor she'd gone to see after the female half of the couple she was employed by cut her hands was called Ladan, and I know his assistant was called Verali. This makes it sound like I'm somewhere in the Balkans, and I may have been. The underground idea isn't far off, since Ariala began working covertly with a growing resistance, hence the radio.
the city in ruins was whatever capital city she was living in, a serious mess after the... whoevers invaded and knocked the theater district down. It seriously felt like the Warsaw ghetto in there circa 1943 or so. Devotion and anxiety are obvious, who wouldn't be both those things when working with a rebellion?
For the life of me I could *not* place Ariala's accent, or the language I heard the characters speaking when they dropped out of what was to me English but to them was probably their standard speech translated for my ears. I wish I knew *where* this was! Despite all my references all over Europe so far, I'm going to take a guess, go with my intuition and say this was Prague. Bold, I know.
