chanter1944If the other Pern MU* folks on my friendslist haven't heard, though I won't be surprised if they already have, I'm saying it. Someone's got to share the news. Anne McCaffrey has died.
You can very probably understand why this's hit me as hard as it has. A few of you really can.
Rest in peace, Ms. McCaffrey. You will be missed, and you will never be forgotten. Not by this Pern MU* player and bookworm, anyway.
The post beyond this link deals with my specific Pern MU* experiences, but if it weren't for Ms. McCaffrey, I wouldn't have written it at all. I'd also be a far worse, far shallower, far less mature and less tolerant person than I am today. I still need work, of course, but wow. ... Here. Read this and it might make a little sense why I'm taking this harder and more personally than some.

I wish I had alcohol in the house; I'd raise a glass. No cherry soda here either, as I'm out. ... Damn it. What a loss.

I felt much like you describe when I learned Robert Jordan died. Also, I was dismayed because he hadn't finished the Wheel of Time before he died. Fortunately, he and his widow picked a good successor to finish the epic.
