chanter1944: a house and road blanketed in snow (Wisconsin winter: buried in snay)

This isn't exactly liveblogging, but with the exception of a few tweets (yes, I gave in and got a twitter, mainly for the purpose of keeping up with protest things), I haven't had the chance. Here goes.

Seen in a corridor leading to the rotunda: One protester (male, forties-ish), hugging and thanking on-duty cops.
Heard in the rotunda: The Battle Hymn of the Republic, played on baritone sax (I think? correct me if I'm wrong, Joanne) and drums. Darn well, too. I never thought I'd hear that particular song played by that particular friend. Wow! I may have to mention it to her if I can catch her between sets.
Found in the rotunda: One friend from college, completely by accident. She spotted me, and there was much catching up. Hi, Mandy!
Heard in public in the last two days: Only one swear word (mine, relatively quietly, hissed when slipping down two icy steps). Oops!
Not seen since the protests began: Any violence, open meanness, or so much as a hint of reported thuggery. The people reporting on 'chaos' must be referencing some other Madison.
This is what democracy smells like: Clean clothes and people, lavender, lily-ish perfume (mine, so of course I'm going to smell it), damp wool, pizza, coffee breath (ick, but could be much, much worse), marble floors, coconut hand lotion or sanitizer, snow, faint hints of cologne, even fainter hints of cigarette smoke and alcohol, hot coffee, and restaurants of all kinds cooking up a storm. Further sniffs to follow.

I was tempted to spend the night at the capitol, as I feel like I'm not doing enough, but I'm afraid I'll conk out at four in the morning, wake up and realize it's noon, and I have to work tomorrow. Maybe I'll stay over tomorrow night. To the firefighters staying over there in solidarity now, we love you.

I'm too keyed up to sleep, darn it. *fishes out some oldtime radio episodes and settles in*

What did you think of the new bill that the Senate passed? The state senate just passed a new house rule: any senator who misses two sessions will no longer be paid by direct deposit, but must pick up his paycheck on the senate floor.

Maybe now 14 certain Senators will bother showing up to work like everyone else has to.... I'd be able to get away with just flaking off from work for 3 days before I'd get canned.
