Most guides tend to be labs, goldens, or lab/golden mixes, sometimes German shepherds (it takes a certain personality to work with most shepherds, and I categorically do not have it) and the occasional standard poodle. I've met one smooth-coated collie guide and heard of another, but they were a couple of adorable rarities.
