Okie, since I'm at home and this link's going to show up in my family computer's history...

Alrighty, spilling the legumes. For the record, and I swear I'm not a bad girl. I don't drink at uni, I don't plan to drink outside New Year's until I'm legally able to, and even then it'll be a rare occasion that gets me to.

New Year's Eve I got a lift to Columbus which is halfway between where I'm currently at and Madison, the lift being necessary for the simple reason that me driving is a violation of just about every driving law on the books not to mention safety hazard ahoy. Such is why the sister who drives knows what we did Friday night. Once we got to Columbus I crawled into the backseat of my best friend's car (and she doesn't drive either seeing as she's as blind as I am) and we rode the rest of the way to a town I swear is off the map because it's teeny. No it wasn't terribly far, no worries there. In the end six of us turned up, Lizzie, me, a girl I went to school with and sang with for thirteen years, two people who we all knew from summers past (one of whom lived in the house we were at) and a friend of the host of this little party thingie's. That friend was the only one who could see, and three of us had service dogs, all of them labs. Can we say cute? :) Add to that the big black fuzzball that was Sarah's other pet puppy dog and you had one interesting time regardless.

We ordered pizza and we ate a ton of chips and played some American Idol board game that Kim brought with her and since all but one of us sings it was great. And yeah we drank. We drank quite a bit. And here I'll say for the record that this's only the second time I've ever drunk at all and that no, we did not leave the house after the first sip. Sarah's mother knew what we were about, she was there and told us we weren't leaving once we drank anything stronger than Pepsi. So we stayed in the house and listened to a ton of music and watched the ball drop in Times Square.

And of course we did some interesting things, since we're the only people I've ever heard of making brownies and cake at ten in the evening. Yes that's my definition of unique New Year's fun. And I did discover this for the first time. When I've had stuff to drink, I slip into a strong Scottish brogue. That's where my MSN name came from. I sounded just like Janet from Westway.

So enough of that. Sunday morning I thought we'd be able to get dressed, get our stuff together and catch a lift with Lizzie's parents back to Columbus where my sister would collect me and we'd zip home. Should've worked, right?

Wrong!

We had an ice storm, a nasty one. The roads were half an inch of glare ice and we had freezing rain/hail the whole morning. A plane skidded off the runway at Madison's airport, cars were in the ditches by the hundreds, literally. And my sister's seventeen. Katie didn't want her driving, I didn't want her driving. So Lizzie's dad came and picked us up from Sarah's and we crawled to Lizzie's place, with a call in to 911 mixed in since we witnessed one of those station wagons running into the median. I hope everyone was ok, it looked like it though. Everyone was outside the car like seconds after.

As this's all going on, we're calling my sister sorting out should she drive or shouldn't she. In the end we decide I'm bunking at Lizzie's for the night and for all intents and purposes I was there Friday night too. Cough. I'm not like this normally, I'd just be in major trouble if anyone found out.

So I room with Lizzie and we order pizza again, and end up listening to a ton of satire and comedy music and junk since she's a student of Dr. Demento too, only more so than me. and we're up late, of course. And this morning my parents' plane lands at Madison's airport, we meet them on the east side, and we all drive home.

that's my New Year's. Oy!

That's why I only do that once a year.
