Re weak points in the border: I now get the image of a teenager, maybe someone needing to flee to friendlier climes because of unaddressed mistreatment on account of their sexuality or gender, slipping through under the guise of going to the amusement park. Maybe there's a contact working at the place who's known to Resistance types, and they occasionally help people slip across. Hmm.
Re Midge: Heh, I can see this happening! Helen puts down the phone, looking perplexed. "I have no idea who that was, honestly. Whoever they were, all they'd tell me was 'Madigan'." "Don't talk to him," Quinn and Adrian chorus vehemently. "Nosy reporter," Adrian explains, "and worse. I wouldn't trust him so far as I could throw this house. The man switches sides... you know, it's doubtful he even has a side. The side of bad news, maybe. Mainly for us."
Re fanfic novels: Of course, you get variations in quality there too. I've read some pretty atrocious fanfic novels, as well as some amazing ones.
