Sep. 14th, 2020

To update, because the last time I wrote an entry, my place was still in the process of drying out from the flood. Should I call it the great flood of 2020, or something?

I'm back on the isthmus as of Friday night. My return was marked by the discovery that half the carpet had not in fact been sorted out, due to a genuine error on the part of maintenance. Oops, and also dammit, but it really was a genuine mess-up (someone didn't look around the bedroom wall, so missed half the water damage). I spent the weekend burning candles and letting a room deodorizer do its SPFFFFT! thing every few minutes in order to beat back the smell of mildew, because clean water or no, water damage aftermath can be seriously stinky. Today, and thank God, maintenance came in, removed the stink-tastic bundle of old carpet padding from beneath the missed section of rug and replaced it with brand new, clean padding, stretched and secured the carpet back over it, rehung my bedroom closet doors, and fixed quite a few other minor issues along the way. Much of the mildew smell has departed accordingly, at which I breathed a gigantic sigh of relief because holy Moses, that STUNK, and the rest should vanish once they're in to clean the carpet properly tomorrow. Then I can move my dresser, shelving unit and laundry basket back where they belong and hopefully call the entire thing over and done with. Fingers crossed!

I also start to work from home tomorrow. I won't lie and say I'm not nervous.
