chanter1944: a house and road blanketed in snow (Wisconsin winter: buried in snay)
A surprise!furlough day landed in my lap this afternoon, courtesy the cool bosslady, because it really is super slow at work at the moment. Initially, my fellow customer service rep and I were both told to work 8:30 to 4 for the rest of this week, but that got amended. I wound up staying till the end of the day today thanks to a sneak attack project, but tomorrow stands as a day off. The rest of that sneak attack project has bosslady's blessing to wait until Monday, and I left the office tonight with the cheerful admonition to "Go enjoy the time with your family!" That wasn't a hint; much of the immediate family are coming down this way tomorrow night, and bosslady knew it. It's the UW marching band's annual spring concert, which is always a big deal, but doubly so this year as the much-beloved band director is retiring after a literal half century in the position. I expect the place will be packed to the rafters! Dad, one brother-in-law, and the younger niece are the only ones staying up on the marsh; a marching band at full volume in a capacity arena would probably be more than a little much for a kidlet under two, be she a music-loving toddler or not. I'm doing the rock concert thing and bringing earplugs of my own.

The only downside, aside from worrying that things go bananas while M the coworker is alone in the department, is the dent in the paycheck. I'm lucky in that I can withstand that dent, and I know it.

I am sleeping the heck in tomorrow, listening to WPR's morning show or not at my leisure, then getting rid of the worst of my caterpillar eyebrow overgrowth and hopefully acquiring painted nails at the same time, and, after that's done, having lunch at a food cart somewhere on the square. There will be enjoyment of hot coffee, weekday DXing, and a bunch of writing throughout. And vacuuming of the carpets - blah. Can't win 'em all.

One definite upside to the surprise!day off: Not having to fight the inbound traffic at the end of the afternoon. It's going to be an absolute zoo, between the concert, the Sanders rally (still haven't decided if I'm going to that) and the usual Friday rush. This way, I can meet my family for dinner and concertness without any of us having to scramble.

This should be fun. :)
