these quotes are entirely apt
Dec. 5th, 2013 06:47 pm"The light has gone out of our lives, and there is darkness everywhere. ... We will not see him again as we have seen him for these many years. We will not run to him for advice and seek solace from him, and that is a terrible blow, not only to me, but to millions and millions in this country."--Jawaharlal Nehru, on the death of Gandhi
that fits President Mandela as well as it fit Gandhi. Oh no, sir. I can't believe it yet. Rest in peace as well as power, Baba Mandela. You will never be forgotten.
That man was an abdal, or the closest this universe has to them, in the Young Wizards sense of the word. He was a direct channel of bright power into the universe if there ever was one. He was genuine. Everything he did was genuine. He wasn't a person who sought to change people's minds for his own gain; making people think like him was an achievement, and an impressive one for sure, but he didn't change minds just to change them. His conscience showed. Everywhere.
I know now that it's a western myth that Mandela was a singular miracle-worker. Just the same, even among a generation of pillars, he was... He was an abdal. He was singular. He was radiant, and I don't mean that in a silly romanticized way. You could literally feel the bright presence he had just radiating from him. It came through speakers. I know that one from personal experience. Even when you were surprised or embarrassed or amused or unsettled by something he said or did, he still... just *shone* with something that balanced it all out again.
the light has gone out of the world.
I will never forget, Baba Mandela. I will never forget you, and I know that simply remembering is not enough. The torch has been passed, sir, and may we do it some small measure of justice.
"The light has gone out, I said and yet I was wrong, for the light that shone in this country was no ordinary light. the light that has illumined this country for so many years will illumine this country for many more years, and a thousand years later that light will still be seen. The world will see it, and it will give solace to innumerable hearts."--Jawaharlal Nehru, after Gandhi's funeral
For country, substitute world. You have it.
