I'm an auntie!
Jan. 28th, 2013 12:09 amI just got the call, and it rather woke me up. I didn't mind a bit. To quote Phil Harris spoofing on himself on radio after he and Alice welcomed a second kid, "Well It's true, it's true!"
It's a girl! Laura Jayne Floyd showed up at 10:34 tonight, so no Challenger day birthday for her. 6 pounds and... oh dear, I've forgotten the details, 20 inches long, and perfectly healthy. She has hair, but it isn't long yet. Give that one a few months. Mom, dad and daughter (!) all fine. And one delighted extended family, although I think I rather annoyed my youngest sister (not the one who had the kid!) when I called her right after hanging up with Mom. I am... just utterly stunned. If I'm this floored, and it's taking me this long to process the idea of another generation of us, I can't imagine how Allie and Jordan must feel, let alone Mom and Dad. Utterly stunned, and amazed, and just... holy cow. As I said on twitter, articulating this one properly would take about an hour, and a) my articulation's rather left me for the moment, and b) I have to work tomorrow, so I need to get to bed!
There is so much I want to teach this kid. All the seemingly random little things that nobody else ever even thinks about remembering, I hope she'll learn from me. I admit I'm hoping she's a little like me; her mother's very practical, though her father's got his own quirks. ... Right, see above, and taking an hour to articulate things. If I keep going in this direction, I'll use up that hour and then some.
Fun eccentric auntie duties commence!
I need to talk to Shannon about getting Friday or possibly Monday off to go visit my niece (!) and sister. And chosen brother, can't leave Jordan out. I have a music box to buy, and I should get something for Allie and Jordan, and... good lord. A kid. :) :) :) A girl kid. :) :) :)
I'm never going to get any sleep at this rate. :)
