chanter1944: a blue-shaded dyed egg (not enough blue in the world)
Oooooh, what a night! I knew it was going to be a barn-burner of an election, but good lord. Too close to call... I'm getting unpleasant flashbacks to 2000 here, darn it. Let's hope this particular race ends better for our side than that one did. Prosser and his 'nuclear blast' references, give me a break. As for a liberal message that's neither been broadcast nor received, I'd call turning what was assumed to be a no-contest, no-interest spring race into a dead heat with a turnout of over a million 'message received', thank you very much. And we may yet succeed.

Lord, do I ever hope we do.

On the positive side, we have a new mayor. Not that I don't like Mayor Dave - I like him fine, though I'm admittedly not a fan of the Edgewater situation. Someone on twitter jokingly made reference to Mayor Dave and Soglin co-mayoring, and if they could, I'd be fine with it. But I'm happy. I voted for Soglin - can I call him His Honor, since I wasn't here the first two times he was mayor? I can't write Hizzoner and keep a straight face yet, anyway. And anyway. Thank you to Mayor Dave for a job well done, but congratulations, Mayor Soglin.

We've also got Parisi, and that was expected, but it's still great it's a reality now. I'm not in the district Brian the coworker was running for alder in, and I have to say that had I been, wow but that would've been a hard choice! A NARAL-affiliated candidate versus one with a background in education and clean energy... yeesh, tough pick ahoy. Even though that didn't end in my coworker's favor, well fought anyhow, Brian.

As for the two referenda on ditching Citizens United... I haven't heard, but I'm hoping they both passed. I know they're nonbinding, but even symbolic gestures can matter. And yes, for the record, I did vote for Judge Sumi even though she was running unopposed. I got the warm fuzzies doing so, too. :) You kick much posterior, ma'am, and you do it fairly, contrary to what certain *cough* people off to the far right might claim.

... Oof, now for the negative news. Not the too close to call news, as that's not definitively positive or negative yet - gah! The definite negative is that ugh, I'm hungover. Whoops. I pretty much knew I would be, but oof. Oh well, I've felt much worse.

Come on, unreported districts! Go blue. Go very, very blue. Gah!
Update to the earlier entry. I am no longer hungover (whew, and considering it's eight in the evening, good thing! XD), I've started sorting out some insurance-related RL (nothing scary, just something that needed doing), and we have a new Supreme Court justice in Wisconsin.

I know, I know, that's not official yet, and I know a recount is coming, but eeeeee! We *did* it! 200-something votes. 200. I am *floored*. If ever I thought a single vote didn't count for much - and I admit I've thought that in the past, generally when the electoral college is involved - I've been proven wrong today. Justice Joanne Kloppenburg has one nice ring to it, I have to say. Yes, I know, not official yet. But holy *cow*.

Score one for reason, for clear professionalism, for soft-spoken decency, for keeping partisan politics the heck out of the judicial branch of state government. And score one for Wisconsin, because we totally have.

I said this on twitter earlier, and I'll say it in a slightly more wordy fashion here. In six weeks, we turned a no-contest spring election race into a dead heat barn-burner with a turnout on the order of a million and a half. In *April*. Give us six months' notice next time, and I can easily imagine we'll take back Wisconsin.

And heck, we're already doing that. :D

Totally, completely, and shamelessly off topic, many, many *hugs* to [livejournal.com profile] newredshoes. And a few more. *hugs* Not sure if the prayers of a massively lapsed Lutheran will help much, but I'll give it a go.
