this is why I switched to Firefox
Feb. 20th, 2010 02:59 amOkay, for the record, from now on I'm not using Internet Explorer unless I absolutely have to.
An ad-on that I recently... well... added on to Firefox has been giving me issues when it comes to sending e-mails. There was one particular Her Turn related e-mail I rather badly needed to send tonight and, because I'm a dork, I didn't even think of uninstalling the ad-on until after I was midway into a mess. What I did instead was open IE, intending to send a single e-mail and then close out. The e-mail sent, but in the... maybe ten minutes I spent dealing with eudoramail, several uninvited guests decided to show up via IE. Namely, Paladin Antivirus (which is a horrible and likely intentional irony) and three or four desktop icons that I would *not* have created of my own volition. Ten minutes, not even. Yeeeesh!
Cue a phone call to Dell, a heck of a wait due to high call volume, then one l-o-n-g conversation with a friendly tech support person who proceeded to save my butt. Paul, if you ever read this, thanks. It took some doing - some useful programs downloaded, that sort of thing - and the borrowing of a neighbor's eyes for a bit, but eventually all the rubbish Quark had been infected with was scrubbed out. Yaaaaay! Totally worth the money I spent for it. Whew!
In short: Not using IE again unless utter necessity is driving. Granted necessity was sort of doing that tonight, but anyway. Going to uninstall the Firefox ad-on that started this whole thing, now.
Whew.
