give while the giving's good

Second platelet donation in as many weeks a success! :D My iron was at 13.3 last Sunday, and I figured okay, that worked out well (after a little fiddling with settings the better not to have the machine clickity-clicking at me the whole way through), I'll keep doing what I'm doing and try to donate again this week while I know my levels are likely still passable. Platelet donation doesn't sap your iron the way giving whole blood does, as you get the majority of your red cells back at the end of the process. I went over to Sheboygan Avenue's Red Cross again this morning and yep, 14.3! I must be doing something right! The donation itself went off with barely a hiccup, too, and a shorter time besides. :) I was home by just after 1.

I got an automated call yesterday morning saying there was an emergency need for both platelets and plasma, so I'm doubly glad I was able to give, now. The question is, should I schedule a third, or should I wait until I've got a definite date for our radio club's final putting together of two dozen portable CW transceivers, and *then* schedule again... By the way things have been going so far, if I wait on a definite date for kit assembly, it'll be a while. Heh. Then again, I don't want to schedule a donation right over top of a meeting I definitely want to be involved in, especially as one of those upcoming portable CW transceivers is mine, and is going to need a couple of minor custom tweaks... Decisions, decisions. :)

You are a hero! I would be still giving blood, except I was diagnosed a couple years ago with a condition that keeps me from giving at all :-(
