Did I mention maple leaves and warm fuzzies?
Canada is actively assisting LGBT refugees out of Chechnya and likely saving their lives in the process.
Unlike the orange!verse, this is a) real and b) government sanctioned, officially. <3 <3 <3 <3!
C'est magnifique, absolument! As nearly ever. I say nearly ever because nowhere's perfect, see that line in the article about previous persecution of trans* folks, but... Around here, our officials are still persecuting them. Up north, people are openly apologizing to them for the unwarranted ill. I... Shards. What am I doing down here, again? This CIS queer lady has a case of continued star eyes! Uncommon common human decency for the sharding win.

I've used the online screening questionnaire several times to see if my husband and I could emigrate to Canada, but we always miss by a couple of points: we're too old, we don't have any skills that are in short supply, we have no money, and my husband doesn't speak a word of French. Merde!

I need to take that online questionnaire. Would you believe I haven't yet?

The questionnaire is mildly amusing. And it's not hard to see that they want people who either have enough money to live on, or who have the guarantee of a well-paying job when they get to Canada; everybody else had better have some kind of damned good reason the Canadian government should let them in :-)

Speaking of said it. Uf da! Watch yer mouth! :P

For the record, I was teasing about the 'watch your mouth' bit. More an acknowledgement that I'd caught it for what it was than anything else. :) A little swearing doesn't bug me in the slightest, except for a few certain slurs aimed at categories of people, which you don't at all strike me as the sort to use.

I remember a once-friend wrote a really good fanfic about MacGyver in Ireland... very well researched and realistic... I sent it to Mother, who's a fan of Irish lit... she liked it, except she complained that they dropped the feckin' f-bomb a lot.... I'm like, "Mother, that's really the way they talk! I *lived* as an Irish lady's houseguest, I *know!*"
She was non-plussed.
