As a military historian I'm already tiring of the comparison to war.
The only time it becomes even remotely apt is in those cases of war where there was also plague- moving soldiers were and are a huge vector- the 17th century bubonic plague outbreaks during the Thirty Years' War and the pox Americana (smallpox) during the Wars of Independence.
