I did, in fact, do the thing. I feel weird going into detail about it; my upbringing is showing again. The way I was raised, random acts of warm fuzzy aren't something you talk up. But kindness did happen. :)

The way I learned, the more you talked about whatever kindness you'd done, the less meaning it had. It became performative for its own sake, or for yours, which is the opposite of what kindness is meant for. That's a very Lutheran take, as I understand it.

Heh. In a lot of ways, I still identify as Lutheran, but there are definitely some aspects of myself that... many a small town church would reject.

Perhaps more ELCA than your original raisings? I have a couple good friends who are ELCA and also generally awesome individuals...
